Redmond O'Toole

Redmond O'Toole (8-string classical guitar) will perform new arrangements of Irish traditional music alongside classical Irish works from the 19th century by Mauro Giuliani.

Selected as the National Concert Hall 2009 rising star and appearing regularly as a guest of The Chieftans around the world, Redmond O'Toole is the first to adapt to Paul Galbraith's 8-string guitar, played in the position of a cello, which allows him an extension of range, colour and repertoire. Redmond has played in many Irish venues and festivals and in Germany, The Netherlands, USA and Mexico and will play in the beautiful surroundings of Stradbally Hall in Stradbally, with thanks to the Cosby family. Earlier this summer, the Dunamaise Arts Centre Portlaoise screened the award-winning short film His & Hers directed by Portarlington man Ken Wardrop, featuring 70 women from the Midlands. Now, due to phenomenal demand, the Dunamaise is delighted to be screening the film for a second run on Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th August at 8pm on each night.
His & Hers is an enchanting and affectionate appreciation for woman in all her versatility. The film, which a host of awards including the Audience award in the Dublin International Film Festival, The Feature Award in the Galway Film Fleadh, an IFTA for Best Feature Documentary and the Cinematography Award at the Sundance Film Festival 2010, to name but a few, has been receiving critical and audience acclaim both in Ireland and internationally.
