Fitz & the 1st East-to-West Atlantic Flight

Colonel James Fitzmaurice flew into aviation history by co-piloting the first aeroplane to successfully cross the Atlantic in a westerly direction.

The story of Fitz, from his formative years in Laois to his fearless flight, is told through this fascinating exhibition of original artefacts, infographics and short films.

This exhibition brings together eight artists from Laois and across Ireland, whose work focuses on the surreal and the fantastical, dreams and the subconscious, the gothic and the macabre.

The Wolfhill Coalmine Project

A collaborative mixed-media exhibition preserving the memories and stories of Wolfhill miners and their way of life.

With contributions from David Delaney, Ciara Drennan, Pauline Mc Evoy, Stephen Murphy, Jayne Louise Kelly and Joseph Kavanagh. Through writing, photography, digital media and art, the team's interpretations and creative responses to their 12 month residency are presented alongside newspaper & photographic archives, social & community history, artefacts and recorded interviews with former miners, their families and descendants.

Exhibition runs 25 July -1 September | Reception on Wednesday 22 August, 7pm, as part of Heritage Week

Original artwork from the graphic novel by artist Philip Barrett. In association with Celtic Con, Ireland’s Midland comic Convention taking place on Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th June, O’Loughlins Hotel, Portlaoise.Written by acclaimed writer/artist Declan Shalvey and illustrated by Philip Barrett, Savage Town is set in Limerick City and loosely based on real events in Ireland at the turn of the millenium. Jimmy ‘Hardy’ Savage heads up a small-time gang in a city gripped by two big-time gangs and his presence has been tolerated - until now. Jimmy is in for a mess of trouble.
