Coolboy are a four-piece rock band based in the Portlaoise area, comprising of Fionn Devoy on Lead Guitar, Tadgh O’Dwyer on Rhythm Guitar and Lead Vocals, Ruairi Phelan on Drums and Alex Power on Bass Guitar and Vocals.

Coolboy’s lively style draws influences from classics like The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac and Thin Lizzy, right up to modern acts such as Catfish and the Bottlemen and The Back Seat Lovers. Their set is a mixture of covers of modern hits and rock classics, interspersed with exciting original material.

This will be Coolboy’s first headline performance in the Dunamaise Arts Centre, the concert will be filmed as part of the brand new RTÉ One TV series AN GHIG MHÓR. Coolboy were selected as one of the bands to take part in the series which follows young bands as they plan and organise their first big hometown gig. The series will air on RTÉ One in the Autumn.

Fionn and Tadgh are from Portlaoise, Fionn is in first year college in Maynooth, while Tadgh is preparing for leaving cert ’24 in Dunamase College. Ruairi and Alex are from Mountrath, and are preparing for leaving cert ’24 in Mountrath Community school. All four lads were previously members of other bands in the Portlaoise area, appearing at major festivals like Forest Fest and Electric Picnic, but mutual musical influences brought them together to form Coolboy in Autumn ’23.
