Where does a theatre production begin?

Before the set, before the lights and before the audience, there is a conversation.

For Culture Night, theatre designer John Doheny and director Kevin Lalor Fitzpatrick invite a small audience into Dressing Room 5 to witness the normally unseen beginning of the creative process.

As director and designer discuss a play, three actors bring fragments of their conversation to life. Ideas are explored, changed, discarded and imagined again.

Part performance, part conversation and part experiment, PLAY — The Meet opens the door on the moment an idea begins to become theatre.



This is Stage One of my Dunamaise residency and the beginning of a wider exploration into how theatre design can influence human emotion and perception.
