An older man plays the fiddle on a beach as the image for the irish film fidil ghorm

Irish-language feature Fidil Ghorm tells the story of 10-year-old girl Molly, whose father is in a coma. She believes that if she learns to play the fiddle like her dad did and win an All Ireland contest that she can wake him up.

When her Dad is moved to a rehab centre, Molly befriends an elderly grumpy man named Malachy whom she hears playing the fiddle beautifully. Along the way, she is told that he has “magic in his hands” and learns that he had been a champion fiddler once upon a time. She coaxes him to teach her to play the fiddle, and together they go in search of the magic that only music can bring.
