In this workshop, Dermot Bolger – author of fifteen novels and two short story collections – delves into the creative process of finishing a novel or memoir or story collection and into the psychological inhibitions that sometimes hold us back and trick us into making such imaginative journeys more difficult than they might necessarily be.

The ten participants will be invited to send Bolger, a 1,200-word extract from a work in progress to allow him to tailor the workshop to those taking part. Dermot Bolger is a Dublin born novelist, poet and playwright whose fifteen novels include The Family on Paradise Pier, The Lonely Sea and Sky, and most recently, Hide Away. His many plays include Last Orders at the Dockside and an adaptation of Ulysses, both staged by the Abbey Theatre. As a factory worker in Finglas in the late 1970s he founded the Raven Arts Press which later became New Island Books. His latest book of short fiction, Imperfect Beings, was published in May 2026.
