Abbeyleix & District Historical Society supported by Laois County Council Heritage Office commissioned Bailey & Blake Productions Ltd. to produce a video documenting the various famine-related projects and activities that that community in Abbeyleix are engaged in to remember and commemorate the famine victims from the area.This video explores the history of the famine in Abbeyleix and county Laois from workhouses to emigration while also looking at community efforts to maintain famine burial sites and keep the memory of the victims alive through commemorative events. With contributions from many Abbeyleix locals this video gives a fascinating insight into the generational aftermath of the Great Famine and the need for people to remember.Short Film to be followed by Talk and Q&A.
