Across the Sea

What happened when Yeats met Tagore in 1912?

In 1912, Irish poet W. B. Yeats encountered the poetry of Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore in London. Their meeting sparked a remarkable artistic exchange across language, geography and culture.

Across the Sea brings that spirit of exchange to life through Indian classical Kathak dance, original music and spoken word.

This new 20-minute interdisciplinary performance brings together Sagnik Chakraborty, an emerging Portlaoise-based composer, and Moumita Pal, Artistic Director and Kathak dancer, in their first creative collaboration. Music and choreography will be developed side by side, allowing rhythm, movement and melody to shape one another, with Indian and Irish musical influences woven into a new artistic dialogue.

Following the performance, Moumita and Sagnik will share a short insight into the creative process, followed by an informal audience conversation about friendship, cultural exchange and the connections that bring us together.

Join us and explore what happens when an encounter across the sea becomes a new artistic language.
