Discover the grace, rhythm, and storytelling of Indian Classical Kathak Dance. We are honored to offer a rare opportunity to learn directly from world-renowned Kathak maestro Ashimbandhu Bhattacharjee visiting from India on 19th June 2026, Friday at Dunamaise Arts Centre, Portlaoise.
Guru Ashimbandhu Bhattacharjee is an internationally acclaimed Indian Classical Kathak Dance Maestro visiting Ireland from India for the very first time. With performances across the USA, Japan, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and beyond, his artistry brings decades of tradition, storytelling, and rhythm.
In this exclusive 2-hour session, participants will be introduced to the fundamental movements, rhythmic footwork, and expressive gestures of Kathak dance, one of the eight major forms of Indian classical dance. They will be taught a full Kathak dance item of 5 mins that they will have the opportunity to perform at the main event on 20th June at Dunamaise Arts Centre, Portlaoise. The music for the item will be shared to each participant to be able to use later on.
We welcome participants from all walks of life and all backgrounds. No prior dance experience is required, only a desire to move and learn. This workshop offers a welcoming space to explore rhythm, movement, storytelling and expression through art.
